Heuser Hearing Institute CEO Brett Bachmann was honored as a Hearing Loss Champion in the 2023 Oticon Focus on People Awards. For 25 years, the competition has encouraged people across the U.S. to vote online to celebrate individuals whose courage, vision and commitment are changing the perception of what it means to have hearing loss.
Brett is a passionate advocate for patient-centered care in the press, on industry panels, with the legislature in his home state of Kentucky and with lawmakers in Washington D.C. Throughout his career, he has worked tirelessly to develop and implement programs that create lasting change, including the creation of KY HEARS (Hearing Healthcare Equal Access Reaching Statewide), a statewide healthcare initiative that focuses on closing the education and employment gap for all Kentuckians who are deaf or hard of hearing.
“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to be named one of Oticon’s Hearing Loss Champions,” Brett said. “I feel even more inspired and motivated to continue our mission to bridge the gap for people within the hard of hearing and deaf community.”
Brett has also created a partnership with the Family Health Network that has significantly increased the number of low-income patients receiving free hearing care and hearing aids. Dedicated to making communities more diverse, inclusive, and better places to live, work and learn, he has spearheaded programs that address educational disparities, especially focused on the welfare of children with hearing loss and others who are marginalized.
“In 25 years, the Oticon Focus on People Awards has honored more than 300 amazing individuals, like Brett, who make a positive difference and drive change for people with hearing loss,” said Jacob Torpe Winter, Vice President of Marketing, Oticon, Inc. “Each has found a unique way to make the world a better place for people with hearing loss and for all of us. In sharing their stories through this national awards program, we aim to join them in making the world a better, more inclusive place for people with hearing loss.”
