On October 3, 2018, Dr. Maria Kondaurova submitted an internal University of Louisville EVPRI grant titled “Telepractice in pediatric speech-language therapy: characterization of patient, parent and provider vocal interactions.” The collaborative project between the University of Louisville, Heuser Hearing Institute and the University of Kentucky will examine the quantity and quality of speech between a speech-language pathologist (SLP), a hearing-impaired child and a caregiver during telemedicine and an in-person therapy sessions. This research project will help improve the effectiveness of telemedicine as a method of healthcare delivery in pediatric population in rural Appalachia. Cheryl Donaldson, Heuser SLP, will also actively participate in the project, assisting with recruitment and testing of families with children who have hearing loss.
