There’s an app for anything, and that includes your hearing aids! These smartphone applications are available to hearing aid users, and it’s like turning your phone into a remote control for your hearing aids. Having control over your hearing aids gives you more independence and flexibility and allows you to customize your hearing according to what you need in any situation.
Which Hearing Aid App Should I Use?
Hearing aid apps are developed by hearing aid manufacturers, and these apps are designed to connect with their specific technology. You need to download the app associated with your hearing aid company:
- myPhonak
- Oticon Companion
- My Starkey
- ReSound Smart
- Widex Moment
- Signia App
You can find these apps in the Google Play Store (for Android) or the Apple App Store (for iPhone). Open the app store and search for your hearing aid manufacturer’s name.
How Does the App Connect with My Hearing Aids?
Your smartphone will connect to your hearing aids wirelessly through Bluetooth®. All modern hearing aids should come with Bluetooth capabilities, so you don’t need to install anything besides the manufacturer’s app. Follow the instructions in your hearing aid app to pair your hearing aids with your phone, and you’re ready to go. If you need help, you can always reach out to us at Heuser Hearing Institute, and we will walk you through it.
What Features Does My Hearing Aid App Have?
Hearing aid apps provide several functions. Some apps may have more or less than what’s listed here, but these are some common examples:
- Volume control: change the overall level of sound your hearing aid projects into your ear
- Equalizer: adjust sound in different bands
- Background noise reduction: applicable in noisy situations
- Streaming: stream calls, music or videos directly to your hearing aids
- Change the listening program: easily toggle from one program to another
- Create personalized listening programs: some hearing aids come with pre-made programs, but you can also customize your own for your personal needs.
- Contact your audiologist: if you need to make an appointment or ask a question, we’re just a tap away
- Track battery life: know how long you have until you need to recharge or change the batteries
- GPS: if you lose your hearing aids, you can use GPS to locate them.
Why Should I Use the App?
One big benefit to all of the features listed above is that you can do all of them discreetly. No reaching up to your ear and fiddling with your earpiece. More importantly, it makes your hearing aids and your hearing health more accessible to you. If you have any questions or need a demonstration of what your app can do, call Heuser Hearing Institute and we’ll be happy to help.
