Do you have a hard time hearing on the telephone? There are several specialized telephone equipment options available to qualified individuals at no cost.
Caption phones work a lot like closed-caption television. They display written captions of what your caller is saying on a large, easy-to-read screen. The phones work with a captioning service as part of a federally-funded program that supports telephone accessibility for people with hearing loss. The phone and services are free to qualified individuals and include installation and support; your monthly phone bill will not change.
Telecommunications Access Program (TAP)
Kentucky residents may be eligible to receive a caption phone free of charge through the state’s Telecommunications Access Program (TAP), which provides free telephone equipment to people with hearing loss. If you know of an individual who is living with a hearing loss and who struggles on the phone, please request an application to see if they are eligible for equipment at no cost to them.
