{"id":5513,"date":"2019-04-29T13:36:51","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T17:36:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thehearinginstitute.org\/?p=5513"},"modified":"2021-04-23T17:43:58","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T21:43:58","slug":"acoustical-society-of-america-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thehearinginstitute.org\/acoustical-society-of-america-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Louisville Non-profit brings 177th Acoustical Society of America Meeting  to Louisville, Kentucky"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Louisville, KY<\/strong>., (April 18, 2019) \u2013 The Heuser Hearing Institute, a local nonprofit that serves the needs of individuals with hearing and balance disorders, has attracted the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) to Louisville.&nbsp; ASA will hold its 177<sup>th<\/sup> meeting at the Galt House downtown, May 13<sup>th<\/sup> -17<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ASA is an international scientific society devoted to the study of sound and acoustics.&nbsp; It was founded in 1929, and has held its meetings bi-annually at cities around the world.&nbsp; This is the first time the meeting will be held in Louisville.&nbsp; Over 1,000 participants are expected to attend.&nbsp; The Galt House has reserved a block of 400 rooms for the attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Louisville residents Dr. Pavel Zahorik, Heuser Hearing Research Endowed chair professor at the University of Louisville, and Brett Bachman, CEO of Heuser Hearing Institute, have worked directly with the ASA in over a year of coordinating, to showcase Louisville\u2019s charming potential to host the conference for the wide variety of prestigious Acoustics Researchers and Scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHeuser Hearing Institute and UofL\u2019s collaboration in bringing this conference to Louisville not only showcases our wonderful city but creates impact for our local economy\u201d, says CEO of Heuser Hearing Brett Bachman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Pavel Zahorik, a distinguished Heuser Hearing Endowed Research Professor, is also an active member of the Acoustical Society, serving as a contributor to more than 25 scientific journals, and placed the bid for Louisville to host its 177<sup>th<\/sup> Meeting 5 years ago, before the selection process was approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a member of the ASA for over 25 years, so I am both honored and excited to have ASA visit Louisville for the first time\u201d, says Dr. Pavel Zahorik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Galt House\u2019s Grand Ballroom, Sampson Hall, Exhibit hall and others will be occupied throughout the week for various workshops, meetings, and competitions- featuring an entire session devoted to Bluegrass music, a staple of Kentucky history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Muhammad Ali Center, Louisville Slugger Museum &amp; Factory, and Urban Bourbon Experience tours within walking distance of the hotel, and the NULU district minutes away, Louisville welcomes the attendees to experience all that the city has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn more about the Acoustical Society of America visit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/acousticalsociety.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">acousticalsociety.org<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>About Acoustical Society of America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Acoustical Society of America<\/strong> (ASA) is an international scientific society dedicated to <span>generating, disseminating and promoting the knowledge of acoustics and its practical applications.<\/span> ASA\u2019s 7, 000 members includes many leading experts in Acoustics in the United States and abroad in various fields related to sound including physics, electrical, mechanical, and aeronautical engineering, oceanography, biology, physiology, psychology, architecture, speech, noise and noise control, and music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>About Heuser Hearing Institute <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heuser Hearing Institute (HHI) is a multi-specialty nonprofit campus promoting the needs of children and adults with disorders of hearing and balance. HHI began as an educational center called the Louisville Deaf Oral School many decades ago. In 2008, Heuser\u2019s scope and mission officially expanded into the Heuser Hearing Institute.
