Signs of a language disorder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- Does not smile or interact with others (birth\u20133 months)<\/li>
- Doesn’t babble (4\u20137 months)<\/li>
- Makes only a few sounds (7\u201312 months)<\/li>
- Doesn\u2019t use gestures (7\u201312 months)<\/li>
- Does not seem to understand what others say (7 months\u20132 years)<\/li>
- Only says a few words (12\u201318 months)<\/li>
- Does not put words together to make sentences (1\u00bd\u20132 years)<\/li>
- Has vocabulary of less than 50 words (2 years)<\/li>
- Has trouble playing and interacting with other children (2\u20133 years)<\/li>
- Has problems with early reading and writing skills (2\u00bd\u20133 years)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
After complete communications testing in Louisville you will be instructed to talk, read and play with your child. Talking about what you and your child are doing as well as using longer sentences as they get older can also help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Signs of a speech disorder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- Says p, b, m, h, and w incorrectly (1\u20132 years)<\/li>
- Says k, g, f, t, d, and n incorrectly (2\u20133 years)<\/li>
- Produces speech that is unclear, even to familiar people (2\u20133 years)<\/li>
- Struggles to say sounds or words (2\u00bd\u20133 years)<\/li>
- Repeats first sounds of words (2\u00bd\u20133 years)<\/li>
- Pauses a lot while talking (2\u00bd\u20133 years)<\/li>
- Stretches sounds out (2\u00bd\u20133 years)<\/li>
- Uses a hoarse or breathy voice<\/li>
- Uses a nasally-sounding voice<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
If your child is suffering from a speech sound disorder, stuttering or a voice disorder, early intervention is key<\/a>. Your therapist will advise you to say the sounds correctly while you talk and not interrupt your child while they are trying to speak. If your child is suffering from hoarseness or a nasally-sounding voice they should see a doctor immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Shows lack of attention to sounds (birth\u20131 year)<\/li>
- Doesn’t respond when you call their name (7 months\u20131 year)<\/li>
- Doesn’t follow simple directions (1\u20132 years)<\/li>
- Shows delays in speech and language development (birth\u20133 years)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
