The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders<\/a> reports, \u201cApproximately 15% of American adults (37.5 million) aged 18 and over report some trouble hearing.\u201d If you\u2019re among this population and you\u2019re preparing to go on vacation, you may need to do a little extra preparation. Below we review your vacation packing essentials for people with hearing loss<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hearing Aids<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you wear hearing aids, it\u2019s important that you not only bring your hearing aids, but that you wear them while traveling to your destination. Whether you\u2019re flying out of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, taking the train or making a road trip, you\u2019ll want to be aware of what\u2019s happening around you by wearing your devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carrying Case\/Charger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When your hearing aids aren\u2019t in your ears, like when you\u2019re swimming or sleeping, it\u2019s essential that you have a place safe to put them. Your carrying case is ideal if you need to stow your hearing aids in a bag while you\u2019re by the pool, but if you have rechargeable hearing aids, you\u2019ll definitely want to bring your charger to dock them in while you\u2019re asleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra Batteries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The last thing you want is to be left stranded, unable to hear if your batteries die. To prevent this from happening, and to prevent you from having to search around an unfamiliar city to find replacements, we recommend simply packing more batteries than you think you need for your trip, just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cleaning Kit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You shouldn\u2019t miss any of your daily cleanings, even when you\u2019re on vacation. Your cleaning kit should include a soft, dry, clean cloth for the shell, a wax pick or wire loop for stubborn debris and a soft brush for your battery compartment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
