Director of Behavioral Health
Barbara Martin is the Director of Social Services for The Integrative Counseling and Wellness Center at Heuser Hearing Institute. Barbara is the mother of a deaf son who is now 37 years old. She has been an interpreter and sign language instructor since 1987, is a technical assistance consultant for schools and families with children who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind, as well as those who are non-verbal and who benefit from using sign language and/or assistive technology to communicate. Barbara holds a Master of Science degree in Social Work with specialization in Psychosocial Oncology from the University of Louisville. In addition to teaching sign language, she is available for individual, family, caregiver and group counseling and for development of client-centered care plans for people from birth to end-stage of life who have life-challenges and hearing loss.
When Barbara isn’t working at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband Chris, their children and grandchildren in outdoor activities, playing music, and traveling.
