Testing
Audiometry
Testing is completed in a test booth and takes about 20 minutes. The patient sits on one side of the booth while the audiologist is on the other side. The patient wears headphones or small foam tips in his ear and is given a push button control and will then hear different beeping sounds - some low in pitch, others high in pitch, but all very soft.
Whenever a beep is heard, a button is pressed. The patient will then be asked to repeat a series of words and sometimes these words will become very soft and the patient may need to guess what is being said. The patient will also be asked to listen to beeping sounds while wearing a headband that sits behind his hear called a bone conduction oscillator. The test results, called an audiogram, will be explained by your audiologist.
